Quarantine: The Stress Of The Period Can Influence Hair Loss

As the years go by, the hair strands no longer react differently. In the elderly, it is common for the locks to lose a little of their thickness and their natural color, giving way to white wires.

But did you know that the pandemic can generate more hair trim? This happens due to the anxiety and stress of the situation, especially for the elderly, who are more at risk. Therefore, we have gathered information and tips to minimize this problem.

How Does Hair Loss Occur?

Hair loss occurs in older adults due to the low production of enzymes and hormones that can be influenced by stress, making them thinner, frizzy, less shiny, and brittle. In women, reducing lipids also affects hair strands to fall out.

Restoring or changing hair color can be done using dyes, but what about hair loss?

Tips To Reduce Hair Loss

Some tips can help reduce hair loss in the elderly, but it is important to note that losing some strands is normal, and it is possible to fall up to 100 of them a day regardless of age. But, there are ways to decrease the amount.

Have A Balanced Diet

At this stage of life, it is common to lose vitamins; the food needs to be reinforced to ensure the intake of good nutrients, eating lots of fruits, vegetables, and legumes so that the body produces hair strands again.

Foods rich in vitamin C like broccoli, oranges, and kale help nourish hair and skin. Those that contain vitamin D, such as meat, eggs, milk, and cheese, help to strengthen the hair, in addition to helping to end tiredness.

Some supplements can help with this care if food is not enough, but doctors must prescribe them.

Use Specific Products For Hair Loss

There are currently several types of products to help reduce hair loss, such as:

  • Anti-hair loss shampoos;
  • conditioners;
  • leave-in;
  • hair tonic;
  • Vitamin ampoule;
  • Hydrating masks.

Many brands started to offer the anti-fall line to their consumers. The ideal is to see which brand reacts best with your hair type, straight, wavy, short, or long.

Hot Water Care

When washing your hair, be careful with the temperature of the water. When it’s too hot, it leaves the hair more frizzy and dehydrated by the heat.

To not wash your hair in cold water and end up catching a cold, it is recommended to use lukewarm water. Apply the chosen product to the hair and gently massage for the content to enter the strands and thus nourish them. Then rinse.

Tips To Reduce Stress During Quarantine

Social isolation, adopted to minimize the contagion of the new coronavirus, made people stay at home for a long time—especially the elderly, as they are part of the risk group for the disease.

There is still no concrete prediction on when the vaccine will be available. But in the meantime, some pleasurable activities to distract the mind can help during this period, reducing stress, reducing hair loss, and improving well-being, such as:

  • Read a book;
  • Watch movies and series;
  • Cooking quick and easy dishes;
  • Set up a small vegetable garden;
  • Plant and care for flowers at home;
  • Adopt a pet for company and affection;

We know how difficult it is to be in isolation, but right now, it is necessary. In addition to taking care of your physical health, you also take care of your hair health by isolating yourself.
