Hidden Sugar Bombs: You Should Avoid These Six Drinks When Losing Weight

Healthy eating doesn’t stop with drinks. However, many of them are unexpected calorie bombs and can thus prevent weight loss. You should avoid these six drinks if you want to lose weight.

It may look seductive, but if you watch your shape, you should refrain from some things – for example, the daily vanilla caramel latte with extra cream.

There is no question that the coffee drink messes up the calorie balance. If you want to lose weight, you should pay attention to your food and healthy and low-calorie beverages.

Therefore, you should save yourself these six calorie bombs – or only drink them consciously and in moderation.

Lemonades

It would help if you stayed away from cola and co. – especially if you want to lose weight. The sugary drinks have little nutritional value but lots of empty calories.

It would help if you also were careful when it’s hot because high temperatures increase the feeling of thirst. It would help if you resisted a large bottle of lemonade because lemonades are poorly suited as a thirst quencher.

The situation is no better with the sugar-free variants: Although lower-calorie sweeteners replace the sugar, these can increase the feeling of hunger, as researchers found in a  study.

As a result, you still consume the saved calories.

Fruit Cocktails

Fruit juices plus alcohol: Not a good combination to lose weight. Both the fructose and the carbohydrates from liqueurs and co. Quickly make their way onto the hips – especially since it often doesn’t just stop at a cocktail.

Some cocktails can even easily keep up with soft drinks with their calories. Instead, you should rather reach for an occasional glass of wine. Red wine, in particular, can – in moderation – even help you lose weight.

Sugary Coffee Drinks

A little cream or syrup in the coffee? No, thank you! Unfortunately, what looks good as a caramel macchiato photo for Instagram often weighs badly.

But you don’t have to do without coffee; on the contrary: Black coffee can even help you lose weight.

Ice Tea

Especially in summer, sparkling iced tea is a pleasant way to cool off. However, packaged iced teas often contain over 20 grams of added sugar.

You can make a low-calorie version yourself with chilled fruit tea and a squeeze of lemon and drink it in a thermal bottle on the go.

Sports Drinks

Sports drinks are important for competitive athletes to absorb enough electrolytes, carbohydrates and liquid.

For an average athlete, however, this is not necessary. Since there is often added sugar in fitness drinks, water before, during, and after training is better.

Smoothies

Some ready-made smoothies from the supermarket often contain added sugar and fructose, which is why they are only suitable to a limited extent as part of a healthy diet.

It is, therefore, better to make your smoothies from your favorite fruit.

This also has the advantage that you can add vegetables – and thus further reduce the sugar content because the fructose can also make homemade smoothies a sugar trap.
